I say, "You can measure the wind. Can you measure God?"
Christian replies, "Yes I can measure God. I once was lost and now I am found. I once was blind and now I see. I once had nothing to live for and now I have everything to live for.
And a minor correction, you are not able to measure the wind, you are measuring the effect of the wind.
My question was have you ever SEEN the wind......."
I insanely annoyed at this point say,
"Sorry, but this (Yes I can measure God. I once was lost and now I am found. I once was blind and now I see. I once had nothing to live for and now I have everything to live for.) is not scientific measurement. Also, my point was that seeing the wind is irrelevant because science can measure it. Perhaps you should research anemometers (measures force and velocity)... it's this force and velocity that causes ripples in a pond... leaves to move... etc..."
It is only now that I realize I'm wasting my virtual "breath" if you will...
So quickly I forget that that vast majority of Christians are grossly lacking a grasp on basic, elementary science. It brings me back to a conversation I had not so long ago with a different Christian regarding what exactly the scientific method entails and how facts are not opinions and opinions are not facts. Speaking of which... lets break this down real quick.
Fact: Glenn Beck has a program on Fox News.
Opinion: Glenn Beck is a twat.
See the OBVIOUS difference!? If not then get the fuck off my blog and revisit first fucking grade! And maybe this time around spend less time arranging boogers beneath your desk and instead try to retain a thing or two.
the angriest of angry bloggers,
But, if you were, "once blind...now I see." ...shouldn't YOU, by your own proclimation, be able to see the wind? Call me anal, but, I always thought the point of religion was to ensure a happy-go-lucky AFTERlife. Why then would God give you -much less, would you want- "...everything to live for"? Your logic is flawed my friend.
ReplyDeleteI overheard a very similar conversation between two idiots at BestBuy.
ReplyDeleteThey were having this conversation in agreement with one another. Idiot #1 posed the exact same question, "What about wind? You can't see wind, but you know it's there." Idiot #2 nodding and agreeing while browsing the ridiculously overpriced magic cables. Listening to idiots attempt to philosophize is bad enough. As they weren't (apparently) in a pharmaceutically enhanced state of mind, their dimwitted exchange didn't even serve to amuse while I waited for the salesperson.
Seeing as how I'm in Alabama I hear conversations like these constantly. It's as if the people I encounter are all the same person... over and over again. The same "arguments" play out in almost the exact same way... every time.
ReplyDeleteactually, one COULD see the wind :)
ReplyDeleteif you color the air (e.g. with pollen) you can see it moving because of the wind. don't christian go out in their gardens, or what???
Oh no they would just say that's an EFFECT of the wind because god really moves the pollen around.
