I know everyone is talking about how Ceelo Green fucked up the lyrics to "Imagine" last night.... but I haven't heard a single person mention how horrible he sounded!!! I mean seriously? He butchered the words that he got right!!!!!!!
Also... he acted like a total jackass on twitter. He deleted his tweets.... but not before those screencapping assholes at JesusFetusFajitaFishsticks could grab some evidence of his ignorance. ;)
Mr Ceelo... I don't think Mr. Lennon's vision of the dreamer depicted in this song.... was a violent, gaudy, asshole that threatens people for disagreeing.
Again... who thought it was a good idea to let you represent one of the greatest artists of all time, in one of the most pacifistic songs of all time? It is a peace anthem... and less than two hours after singing it in front of more people than John Lennon ever performed it in front of... you're threatening people. Disgusting.
Oh... and yeah... our first twitterer that was threatened came back....
Look Ceelo, if you don't mind me calling you that....
You sang, "Imagine no possessions" sporting gaudy jewelry and a fur coat.
You sang, "Imagine all the people living life in peace" and then proceeded to threaten people.
You sang, "Nothing to kill or die for, AND ALL RELIGIONS ARE TRUE" in the middle of a city that only ten years ago... people were killed... because people felt their religion was true. In a city TORN APART by religious fanaticism.... and you're fine with this. You think they're all valid. You're a disgrace. John Lennon has flushed more creativity, talent, and intellect down toilets.

He actually sang "Imagine all the peeper" and sounded like toss.
ReplyDeleteWhat an asshole!
ReplyDeleteThanks for putting these up.
ReplyDelete"I'm not rich, I'm fortunate." LOL! This is absolutely hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't particularly upset about him doing this to Lennon's song. I just took it as a parody meant to convey the opposite message. What's hilarious is that he was too stupid to understand he was doing a parody.
Based on your post I'm wondering how you think of singers. I always thought of them like actors. You know, they entertain by playing a part. I don't expect the actor who plays a rapist to actually be a rapist. I think the same way about singers.
I can see why most people think differently. I mean if someone can express a topic so well musically it really makes you think they really believe in it. However, I don't see why the musical talent has to jibe with the true personality of the singer.
This was brought home to me when I learned that Harry Belafonte absolutely hated the songs he was singing. Of course he may have not written those songs but I'm not sure this is even true for people who write their own lyrics.
Do all rappers really believe the are tough, and all that bullshit they write about? I think it is mostly an act. No reason why a country singer, or a hippy can't do the same.
It's entirely possible that some of the most compelling songs on particular topics were done by people who were largely motivated by the trends of the times.
I'm not saying this to claim say that Bono didn't believe in some of the stuff he wrote. There is compelling evidence in his other acts that he does believe, however some contraditions in his behavior regarding tax avoidance. If I'm to believe he is not an "actor", and if he writes a piece denigrating rich assholes because they don't give away all their money then I would expect him to give away all his (and certainly not to be a tax cheat).
I just don't have that much faith in these singers as true believers in their lyrics. Don't forget, most lyrics by most singers are infathomable bullshit.
@Brian
ReplyDeleteI actually do hold them to higher standards than I would an actor or an actress... but then again most of the musicians I listen to are really hardcore about their lyrics meaning something. Bad Religion, NOFX, various other punk bands, and I listen to a lot of skeptic/atheist artists.
